Students from Hackett Catholic Prep's App Development class were chosen for the Student Technology Showcase at the Capitol. The theme of their presentation was Storytelling with Bloxels. In class, students discussed the elements of a good game. Students decided engaging games are built around well told stories with player choice. "Because of the generous support of REMC12W, we were able to check out the Bloxels kit from TinkerZoo," stated Lorri Batsie, Media Specialist and Instructional Technologist at Hackett.
Using the Bloxels platform, students worked on the elements of a story then produced games. Students had to learn the Bloxels game platform, including how to animate characters, create obstacles, settings, and even give a “brain” to villains. Learning about design thinking with the user in mind, students applied a template to record their work, shared discussions on our boards in Schoology, and recorded their progress in a series of assignments. Practicing for the Capital, students demonstrated each element of their game to the class and at a staff meeting. Games are also available on Bloxels Infinity Wall. Many visitors came to the booth at the Capitol, including Senator Margaret O'Brien. "Thanks to REMC12W for providing technology resources that engage and excite our students. We have a better understanding of game design and presentation skills because of this experience." |
